The
Legal Administrative Specialist program prepares students for employment as legal and
litigation secretaries; legal document processors; and legal office, law
library, legal records, and judicial clerks. Skills include legal typing and
document formatting, legal transcription and terminology, word processing
and computer training, civil litigation, criminal law, and courtroom
procedures. The content includes the use of technology to develop
communications skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making
skills; the performance of office procedures specific to the legal
environment; and the production of quality work in an efficient manner using
advanced features of business software applications.
Instructional
strategies require students to identify, organize, and use resources
appropriately; to work with each other cooperatively and productively; to
acquire and use information; and to understand social, organizational, and
technological systems.
Laboratory activities are an integral part of this program and include
the use of keyboarding systems, transcription equipment, computers and
peripheral equipment, office machinery and the Internet.
To obtain a certificate from the SCTI's Legal Administrative Specialist
program, the
student is required to complete 1050 hours of instruction.
Additional legal continuing education courses are available to those who
