 The
Firefighter I and II Program prepares adults for entry-level jobs in the fire
service. This program includes the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Course
which is required to attain certification as a firefighter in the State of
Florida. Students may be sponsored or employed by a fire agency or apply for
direct admission and must meet all entrance requirements.
The Firefighter I and II and Fire Officer One courses articulate with community colleges offering an
Associates of Science degree in Fire Science.
The next Fire Science Class (Evening Class
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and
all day Saturday) begins July
8, 2008.

PLEASE NOTE: Completion of FFP 1505,
1510, 1620, 2120, and 2521
qualifies participants to sit for the State of Florida Fire Investigator
Certification exam.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR MINIMUM STANDARDS: Student's
competency in math, language, and reading is required. Required basic
skills grade levels are: Reading-10; Math-10; and Language-10. A
student must be 18 years of age by the first day of class.
Applicant must also have:
 | A high school diploma or GED. |
 | A fingerprint and criminal background check*. |
 | A physical agility examination (Conducted by SCTI) |
 | A physical including electrocardiogram. |
PROGRAM LENGTH: The basic firefighter program
(Fire Fighter I and II) is 450 hours.
Advanced programs vary in length, but are generally 48 contact hours or 3
credit hours.
ENTRANCE DATES: This program is offered
twice a year in July (evening classes Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:00 -
10:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 - 5:00) and February (day classes Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 9:00 - 5:00).
