Day Program for High School Juniors and Seniors and Adults

This Early Childhood Education program immerses each student in learning about the whole child.  High School and adult students practice teaching techniques with the children in the laboratory preschool classes on campus called Tech Tots.  This program fulfills Florida Department of Children and Families and Sarasota County child care training requirements.

The program focuses on broad skills that stress understanding and demonstrate all of the following elements in the early childhood education field...rules and regulations; health, safety and nutrition; recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect, child growth and development; planning; communication; literacy; guidance; planning and environmental issues.

Observation and supervised work experience with young children in a preschool laboratory setting are an integral part of the program.  It is recommended that students obtain certification in infant/child CPR and first aid.

To meet Florida's CDA/Equivalency status, a student must also receive credit for 480 hours of direct work with children in a preschool laboratory setting.  CDA/E recipients are eligible for higher wage supervisory positions in the child care community.
