The
Digital Design program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills
to prepare students for employment in digital publishing positions.
The content includes enhanced practical experiences in computer
generated art and text, graphic design, graphic production, electronic
design skills, preparation of electronic layouts and illustrations, and
electronic scanning; and development of specialized skills in web page
development.
Software used in the course includes the Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3)
which includes the page layout program InDesign, the vector drawing
program Illustrator, PhotoShop for image editing and scanning, Acrobat
Distiller for readying materials for print and Dreamweaver for web page
design.
Assignments are provided that help to develop communication,
writing, critical thinking, and creative problem solving skills, in addition
to occupational skills.
As students prepare for
employment as desktop publishing assistants, design technicians,
illustrators, and print media artists, they also gain broad, transferable
skills in planning, management, finance, underlying principles of
technology, labor issues, and safety and environmental concerns.
Mastering the
program's performance objectives qualifies a student to receive a
certificate of program completion. Students are evaluated by the instructor
for adequate display of competency in each area, and develop
a portfolio and resume.
Students are eligible
to join SkillsUSA.
