ORIENTATION

For the High School students enrolled in

Building Construction Technology

will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.
in the SCTI Cafeteria in Building 5.

The Building Construction Technology program prepares high school students for careers in the building construction industry. Shop and laboratory activities are an integral part of the training and provide practical experiences in using modern equipment and the safety procedures and processes used in industry.

Safety practices & disaster plans; construction-related math, & science

bullet

Proper tool usage; 

bullet

Construction procedures for exterior masonry, stucco, and concrete surfaces;

bullet

Appropriate employability, communications, and computer skills; and 

bullet

Positive public relations techniques.

Codes and regulations; 

bullet

Heavy equipment operations; 

bullet

Constructing interior surfaces, doors/windows, and cabinets; 

bullet

Installing roofs; 

bullet

Troubleshooting and repairing plumbing, electrical, and A/C systems; and

Learning entrepreneurship.

High school students…

PROGRAM LENGTH: Students attend morning (7:25 to 10:10 am) or afternoon (10:50 am to 1:30 pm) sessions for 1 – 2 years as juniors and/or seniors.

ENTRANCE DATES: This is a two-year program for high school students. Seniors may enter and complete a one-year program. Students can earn up to 4 credits per year towards graduation.

Classes meet Monday through Friday on a half-day basis. Students may choose to attend morning (7:25 – 10:15 am) or afternoon (10:50 to 1:30 pm) sessions.
