This
1 1/2 year program leads to an Associate in Science Degree in Automotive
Service Technology and is made possible through the combined partnerships of
area automotive dealers, independent auto repair facilities, advisory
committee members, and Sarasota County Technical Institute with a full
articulation agreement with Manatee Community College (MCC).
Students
attend academic courses, classroom demonstrations, and laboratory activities
at Sarasota County Technical Institute and Manatee Community College, and
are employed at an automotive service facility that is selected by the
student.
Students who complete the ATEP program develop the foundation
needed for advancement in an automotive career.
PROGRAM LENGTH: The program takes about 1 1/2 years (1800
hours) to complete. Classes meet Monday and Tuesday with
Wednesday through Friday providing cooperative work experience.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Student's competency in math,
language, and reading is pre-assessed. Required basic skills grade levels
are: Reading-9; Math-10; and Language-9.
The applicant must also be:
Eighteen years of age or older.
High school graduate or its equivalent.
Have prior automotive experience or the desire to train for an
automotive career.
Be able to meet SCTI's and MCC's general admission and academic
requirements.
Hold a valid driver's license.
