You can have the best of both worlds when you learn the technical skills that are in demand, along with medical terminology and office procedures needed to work in hospitals, insurance companies, clinics, and medical research centers.

The Medical Administrative Specialist program prepares students to be administrative specialists in health-related settings. Today’s medical administrative specialists are highly skilled professionals and in great demand. Opportunities for employment include office support, secretarial, or administrative specialist positions in insurance companies, medical management service groups, medical product manufacturing companies, medical equipment and supply companies, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other health-service related businesses.

This program teaches administrative office duties and procedures specific to the medical environment by offering a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the medical secretary. Planning, management, human relations, decision making, communication, finance, insurance, technical and production skills are stressed throughout the program. Students develop proficiency with touch keyboarding and computer applications by using the advanced features in business software to perform office-related tasks in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Students will use their knowledge of medical terminology to produce and transcribe medical correspondence and forms. In addition, students learn to process health insurance documentation. All students must complete an internship to receive a certificate of completion.
