This program prepares students to become a child care center director. A director or manager assumes full responsibility for the educational and administrative aspects of a child care center. Students learn about types of child care programs, legal responsibilities, child care center financial management, food service for child care centers, developmentally appropriate practices, public relations, and entrepreneurship.

Students work with the children enrolled in SCTI’s “Tech Tots” child development center. Students are also eligible for cooperative training in an area preschool.

The program meets Florida Department of Children and Families, and Sarasota County training requirements and includes competencies developed for the Florida Child Care and Education Administrator Credential.

PROGRAM LENGTH: This program is 45 hours.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Student's competency in math, language, and reading is pre-assessed. Required basic skills grade levels are: Reading-9; Math-9; and Language-9.

The applicant must:

bulletPossess a high school diploma or GED.
bulletHave preschool teacher training or experience or completed the Early Childhood education program.
bulletSubmit to an HRS background check. 
bulletHave taken a T.B. Test.

State law requires that a preschool director be at least 21 years of age.
