Why are these classes offered only online?

Yes. They were developed for two main reasons…

1.   To meet the needs of SCTI students who usually work full-time and/or have a family and will benefit from the flexibility of an online class.  Online classes are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

2.  To help students develop their computer skills since most careers require the ability to use a computer as a tool.

Do students have to take the online classes before enrolling as a full-time student?

Anatomy & Physiology is now a pre-requisite for Practical Nursing and Paramedic programs.  Students need to complete A&P before entering as a fulltime student.

The completion of Core Theory is now required to be eligible for the EMT program.

For all other programs, students are encouraged, but not required to complete the Health online classes before entering a fulltime program.

Students who take the online classes ahead of time have more time to focus on the fulltime program components.  (The online courses are also completed online if taken after becoming a fulltime student.)

Do online students need to complete the entrance exam (TABE)?

Fee Support (not yet enrolled in fulltime program) students who wish to drop need to contact Dee by phone (924-1365 x62200) or in person as soon as possible.

Students who are fulltime students, notify their program instructor.

How does the student know where to find the course online?

Once the student has registered for the online class, s/he will receive an email that provides directions to www.careerscapeonline.org and how to logon.

What if a student has never used a computer before or does not own one?

Many students have completed the online classes without buying a computer.  Students may use the labs in Building 14 and 15 during the day and many evenings, or they can use the computers at public libraries or Barnes & Noble.

If students need technical help, they can attend one of the workshops held at the beginning of each class, seek help from the Media Center personnel in Building 14, or find assistance in the computer lab in Building 15.

How can students receive assistance with the online software?

The online instructors hold orientation classes at the beginning of each course period.  (The dates are included in the initial email sent to newly registered students.)

Students are encouraged to attend these sessions to meet their teachers, start the online class, and understand what is expected of them.

Is financial aid available for online classes?

At this time no online classes are eligible for financial aid.
