The Sarasota County Technical Institute has many sources of financial aid.
Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of financial need. Need is the difference between your cost of education (educational expenses such as tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, etc.) and the amount you and your family contribute toward your education. You may be eligible for financial assistance and not realize it.
To find out if you qualify, make an appointment with our Financial Aid Specialists. Many sources of financial aid go untapped because people feel reluctant to apply or think that they do not qualify.

Federal Grants
Federal Pell and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity (FSEOG) are awards made to students by the federal government for educational purposes. These grants do not have to be paid back after students finish their training program.
Ability-to-Benefit Test
The Ability-to-Benefit test is required of students seeking federal financial aid who did not graduate from high school in the United States and need to demonstrate that they possess sufficient “ability to benefit” (ATB) from post-secondary education.
SCTI administers the Wonderlic version of the Ability-to-Benefit test. The test includes Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills and Arithmetic. The Department of Education requires that the student take the three tests in a single testing session.
In order to “pass” the test, applicants must successfully complete all three sections. The minimum scores required by the United States Department of Education are Arithmetic: 34 points; Reading Comprehension: 55 points; and Sentence Skills: 60 points. (A passing score on the first test is required to proceed to the second; then a passing score on the second test in order to move on to the third test.)
Sponsorship
Jobs, etc. offers financial assistance programs for disadvantaged students. The program will pay for the student's registration; lab fees and books; and, where applicable, other specialized program needs such as uniforms, and State Board examination fees. For additional information students call Jobs, Etc. at (941) 358-4200.
Scholarships
Many area organizations, businesses, and individuals offer scholarships to students. Some of these groups choose their recipients and have their own application process. Other scholarships are processed by the SCTI's Financial Aid office and recipients are selected based on criteria set forth by the donor and/or SCTI. Scholarships will help pay for educational expenses and are available to students that may or may not qualify for other forms of financial aid.
These financial aid sources are available for student's to enroll in approved career education programs.
