The Adults With Disabilities (AWD) classes at the Sarasota County Technical Institute participate in several Service Learning projects to help students gain knowledge about the community which encourages civic responsibility and improves character.

The most recent Service Learning project was inspired by the Valentines for Veterans program celebrated during the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week, February 10 - 17th.  The Valentines for Veterans program encourages Americans from all walks of life to deliver valentines to local Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and visit the veterans there.

SCTI students used their imaginations to create handmade and computer generated "messages of appreciation" in honor of the veterans.  The finished valentines were then sent to nearby VA hospitals.  The AWD students encouraged other students on campus to join them in the campaign to let the veterans know that they have not been forgotten.
